A Guide for Establishing and Managing a Computer Science Industrial Advisory Board

Departments need to be innovative in order to secure adequate funding and resources. One approach is the establishment of an industrial advisory board which is a group of industry leaders that volunteer to aid and advise a computer science department. We outline the benefits and motivation for forming an industrial advisory board. We present the steps for establishing a board. We then describe how to manage a board via meetings and events. We also discuss the consequences and pitfalls of having a board. We conclude that an advisory board brings resources, advocacy and non-traditional solutions to the table.
