摘要

Modern cruise ships are characterized by natural light penetrating deep into the public areas through atria. Passengers, made aware by the changing light conditions, are visually connected to the sea. As post panamax ships grow in size and beam, this will become more difficult. While dual atria, connected by a multi-deck arcade, may solve the problem for the upper passenger decks, the interior of the lower decks remains devoid of natural light. Oriana's and Canberra's court cabin design features are examined as possible solutions that provide both natural light and added value to the lower inside cabins.
