The effect of parent material heat treatments (Haynes~R R-41 alloy, Waspaloy alloy, 263 alloy, etc.) on weld metal (263 alloy and Haynes~R 282~R alloy) mechanical properties was investigated by extracting all weld metal (developed using the synergic gas metal arc welding process) tensile specimens from cruciform assemblies. Microstructural characterization of the aged solidification substructure showed that strength was dependant on gamma prime particulate geometry and tensile fracture was initiated and terminated at carbide precipitated grain boundaries.
