The precursor of rare-earth permanent magnetic material, Sm-Fe alloy, was prepared by chemical coprecipitation-decomposition method. Appropriate system of Fe(II)-Sm(III)-NH_3 -C_2O_4~(2-) -H_2O was used for coprecipitation processe. A variety of factors influencing the particle size and morphology such as solution pH value, reactant concentration, reaction temperature and feeding pattern were investigated and the optimum conditions were also determined. In the decomposition process, the reaction temperature and time which influenced the product state were analyzed. The precipitates and the precursors were characterized by XRD, FT IR and SEM techniques. The results show that the coprecipitation-decomposition method provides an effective way for the preparation of magnetic material precursor.
