The Simultaneous Optimization of Process Target Levels and Specification Region for Dual Quality Characteristics

Determining the optimal process target and product specifications for continuous quality improvement has been one of the main research areas in quality control; the related literature contains a vast collection of work. However, some critical questions still remained unanswered. First, most related work is in the context of manufacturing. Second, many researchers have carried out their studies based on a single quality characteristic. Finally, most studies have treated process target and product specifications as two separate issues. To address these questions, this paper proposes a bivariate quality loss function to capture customer satisfaction associated with product quality and an optimization scheme to simultaneously determine optimal process target levels and product specification region.
