Advantages include: 1) Much more cost effective than implementing and checking in a real system. 2) Allows for team participation and buy-in before changes are selected and implemented. 3) The level of detail in a simulation model and variation considerations can ensure that changes will work in a real system, and not just in theory. "Without this simulation model, we would have spent two weeks debating this change, and then we still would not have been completely sure we made the right decision.
