Black & Veatch (B&V) is currently implementing the Chiyoda Thoroughbred 121 (CT-121) wet flue gas desulfurization (FGD) technology to control SO_2 emissions of 24 coal fired generating units across North America, totaling 10,000 MW of generation. This paper detail the design, initial installation, startup, and operating results of the first CT-121 FGD installation at the Dayton Power & Light (DP&L) Killen Electric Generating Station (KEGS) in Southern Ohio. The paper discusses the original design basis for the scrubber, the difference in fuel specifications for the initial coal being used, the expected impacts on operation and performance of the new fuel characteristics, and the actual performance results and operating results of the CT-121 FGD.
