This paper presents the current stage of wind generation technology, discusses the characteristic performance of various wind energy solutions, and outlines how the implementation of each solution may impact power system protection and automation and control design on a local and regional scale. In addition, practical examples of wind farm deployment and technical issues related to protective relaying in order to meet design criteria concerning reliability, selectivity, sensitivity and speed are also presented.
