PLANNING FOR A COMPLEX PROJECT A NEW HOME FOR THE ARIZONA CARDINALS

When the Arizona Cardinals take the field in the fall of 2006, it will be in one of the most unique and complex structures in all of professional sports. From the 700 foot long, 87 foot deep main supertrusses, the twin 270 foot-wide by 180 foot long operable roof panels, to the retractable, natural grass playing field on wheels, there is very little about this structure that could be considered simple. The planning of detailing, fabrication, painting and erection on a project this complex would not prove to be simple either. Reviewed will be the approach to developing a complex project plan that would be flexible enough to incorporate almost certain changes to design, scope, and schedule, but at the same time be solid enough to allow Schuff Steel to meet the stringent requirements and milestone dates. Focus will be given to the importance of open communication and active early participation in the design-assist environment, the affects that schedule and design changes have on your plan, as well as the benefits gained from the ability to adapt to these changes.
