摘要

The automotive industry driven by global competition to accelerate delivery of its products to the market, is driving a process of change in the facilities design and construction supply chain to deliver their facilities increasingly faster, better, and less expensively. Because of increased automation in product design and manufacturing, owners are realizing that their facilities design and construction is increasingly becoming on the critical path for accelerated product delivery. Consistently, over the past several years the design/construction supply chain has been asked to deliver those projects to the owners at aggressive design to construction schedules and at reduced cost. This paper will overview how new opportunities for the supply chain will emerge as owners demand that their design and construction teams increase their reliance on 3D direct data exchange. It addition, it will how structural steel standards play an important role in facilitating this exchange not only for structural steel design, detailing, and fabrication but also for design and delivery of other disciplines.
