Ozone/hydrogen peroxide (O3/H2O2) batch treatment was investigated for the treatment of estrone (E1). The experiment was designed using competitive kinetics, and various levels of pH and O3/H2O2 ratios were employed, as well as a hydroxyl radical scavenger. The results for direct ozone treatment are reported. Results consist of the contaminant concentration decrease, as well as the rate of reaction for the direct ozone-E1 reaction. Rate constants were found to be in the range of 104 to 107 M~(-1)s~(-1). As the varying O3/H2O2 ratios also used varying ozone doses, the effect of O3/H2O2 ratio can not be confidently separated from that of ozone dose.
