Wood preservers have consistently struggled with the challenges of treating refractory (difficult-to-penetrate) wood species such as Douglas fir and engineered wood products including laminated veneer lumber (LVL) and oriented strand board (OSB). TheTRU-CORE Process is a chemically-based technology for rapidly delivering preservatives and other protectant materials deep into wood and wood-based composites. One of its unique features is its ability to penetrate many refractory wood species and many types of engineered wood. Some of the basic characteristics of the TRU-CORE Process are presented along with data demonstrating its ability to treat to the core several commercially important but normally difficult-to-treat wood species and engineered wood products with the carbon-based insecticide permethrin. Permethrin is but one example of the many other carbon-based preservatives, insecticides and protectants which have been shown to penetrate to the core of refractory woods and engineered woods using the TRU-CORE process.
