摘要

The role of high amplitude internal waves in the mixing processes through the Strait of Gibraltar and the surrounding area is a raising matter of investigation. We present in this work an attempt of integration of in-situ measurements obtained in the zone and ERS-SAR images, in order to record the high amplitude internal waves generated at the main sill of the Strait of Gibraltar (Camarinal Sill). We used two ERS-SAR images, corresponding to the Tandem Mission of the Europeans ERS-1 and ERS-2 satellites: 2nd and 3rd January, 1996. Those images were coincident with currentmeter moorings from the experiment "Strait 1994-1996". From the results obtained, it is shown that from the joined treatment of the two types of information, it is possible to deduce important characteristics relevant to the high amplitude of the internal wave occurrences in the main sill of the Strait of Gibraltar.
