Multibase has introduced "Polypropylene μ-Talc", a new masterbatch based on a proprietary polypropylene formulation and Rio Tinto Minerals HAR~R talc. The masterbatch contains 30% of HAR~R talc loading, but is designed to be easily diluted with neat polypropylene resin by the end users, such as automotive injection molders. The final automotive parts could contain HAR~R talc contents as low as 3 to 10 wt%, but still meet the performance required for automotive specifications. Such reduction in filler loading will then allow weight and costs reduction for OEM's. The Polypropylene μ-Talc could also be used in lower-cost alternatives for glass- reinforced polypropylene, where less stringent HDT and impact resistance is required.
