The Independent Distributor or Broker has had virtually the same role in the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) or electronic manufacturing services (EMS) industries since distributor activity developed during the 1970s and 80s. However during the last 15 years credibility and integrity has permanently become part of the foundation of most these organizations. The reputable independent distributor has always been the "go to" company when the main stream supply of product has been either shut off or slowed down to something less man a complete supply for production needs. The independent distributor now has a place in the supply chain to provide a gap supply of End of Life (EOL) product and most importantly a secondary avenue of critical components that threaten continuous production. This presentation will discuss: 1. Examples of how EMS providers and OEMs are using independent distribution strategically 2. An overview of value-added services supplied through this channel 3. Examples of how independent distributors can support customer information needs related trends in product life cycles and worldwide pricing.
