The next revolution in transportation is fully underway. Significant investment, manpower, and effort are committed to the development of autonomous driving technology. There has been significant progress over the past several years. The prospect of autonomous driving becoming a part of everyday life does not appear to be in doubt but nor has it yet been proven. Significant technical, legal and societal hurtles remain. Viability depends on successful development, practical deployment, and the promise of artificial intelligence (AI) to perform equal to and better than human drivers. Ultimately, the usage cases and corner cases must provide absolute proof of safe and reliable operation in order to achieve trust and confidence in self-driving vehicles.
