The possibilities of controlling the single-base and double-base propellants after standard ageing imitating long storage in storehouses were investigated by means of ultrasound. Of the physical and mechanical properties after the ageing process, it was judged by the determined acoustic and strength characteristics. For additional information about the qualities of the propellants, microscopic photographs were taken, too. Some of the data obtained was compared with data form propellants that were naturally ageing. The ultrasonic control allows the test elements not to be destroyed and then be subjected to ballistic tests.
