Rheological properties are crucial to understand the fundamental of processing and structureproperty relationship of polymeric materials. Moreover, the polymer nanocomposites, nanometer size filler dispersed in polymer matrix, have a model system for probing the structure and dynamic properties of polymers in a confined environment. This work mainly focuses on the melt as well as solid rheological properties of polymers in presence of modified/unmodified nanoclay. The linear and non-linear viscoelastic properties are correlated with their nanoscale and mesoscopic structure comparing with different molecular weight and chemical nature of polymeric materials. The effect of surface modification and nanofiller dimension on the rheological properties is also discussed. Rheological properties of a range of polymers e.g.polyolefins, polyesters and nylons are compared with various types of nanoclays. Emphasis has been given on the structural evolution during deformation of soft polymer matrix in presence of moderately rigid nanofillers.
