摘要

Lake Balaton is the largest freshwater lake in Central Europe covering 596km~2. The lake shore vegetation plays an important role in the ecosystem and certain physiological features serve as an indicator of stability. The dominant species of the lake (i.e. common reed) has suffered the die-back syndrome, a characteristic deterioration of vegetation occurred in large scale in wetlands of Central and Eastern Europe since the 1960s. Reed is encountered also in the American continent, where the opposite phenomenon has been observed with reed displacing aquatic vegetation of higher ecological value. In this project we employ very high spatial and spectral resolution airborne data in a synergistic way with the aim of mapping the extent of the lake shore vegetation species. Additionally we endeavour to assess the reed stability from hyperspectral data and object based image analysis of orthophotos. State-of-the-art hyperspectral, LiDAR and very high resolution photography will be analysed with a methodology based on extracting complementary information from the different data sources. It is anticipated that this research will lead to a habitat mapping system which can be applicable in similarly vegetated areas.
