(553)INFORMATION LITERACY: FROM THE PRINT TO THE DIGITALFORMAT1

This research was about the identification of information competencies developed by universitystudents during the transition from print to digital format, and its relationship with disciplinary training.These competencies form the basis for lifelong learning, and these enable people to assume controlover their learning experiences. Research in this field contributes to identify some factors that could beaffecting today not only higher but also college education related with the development of basic skillsdemanded by the information society. In this context new skills and competencies are required andeducational systems must try to bridge the gap between teachers and students skills, and to generaterelevant answers to handle the changes in the learning abilities required by new educationalscenarios. Participated 120 students in the phenomenographic study, from two private universities.This paper provides an analysis of the changes in the competencies related with the type of formatused by students in academic situations: print or digital;;some questions about the digital divideemerge here. Results suggest that university students experience slight change in their informationliteracy along their university studies, and that there are not significant differences in the competencieswhen using print or digital formats.
