(1637)GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING EDUCATION AND THE REALWORLD NEEDS

One of the challenges faced by companies recruiting graduated civil engineers to work in the field ofgeotechnical engineering is that they do not have enough training to satisfy the needs of the company.This paper presents suggestions on how the engineering students should be trained in geotechnicalengineering to ensure a good transition from educational institution to the real world. Attention hasgiven to the importance of the practical experience for geotechnical engineering educators;;thedevelopment of engineering judgment;;computer test simulation or video to explain the laboratory andfield tests;;field trips and summer training in industry firms.
