In this research fast pyrolysis of pine saw dust was studied to establish the effect of the process parameters such as pyrolysis temperature, feed rate and residence time on conversion and the quality of the products on bench scale. Fast pyrolysis experiments carried out in a bubbling fluid bed reactor heated externally.100g of PSD was pyrolyzed at 400C, 500C, and 600C. The highest conversion yields of liquid, solid and gas products (at respective pyrolysis temperatures) were 56% (500°C), 20%(400°C) and 58% (600°C). General characteristics of bio-oil such as viscosity, Karl Fischer water content, ash, C, H, O, N and metals were determined.13C NMR spectroscopy was used for the determination of the functional groups present in the oil. Separation and quantification of the gaseous products such as H2, CO, CO2 and C1-C6 range hydrocarbons were performed by gas chromatography. Char was analyzed for metals and ash content.
