It is well known that selective oxidations such as SiO_2 and Al_2O_3 at the steel surface during annealing produce deterioration of the surface quality of galvanized steels. Control of the oxide formation is extremely important to achieve superior surface quality for galvanized steels. In this study, oxide morphology and the growth of oxide on high Si steels was studied by the addition of Antimony. It was tested in N_2-H_2 mixed gas from 800-830 °C and steel surfaces were analyzed by FE-SEM and GDES. Antimony is enriched on the steel surface and has a strong influence on high temperature oxidation. It is considered that the presence of antimony on the steel surface retards the growth of oxides and also makes oxide form homogeneously. Homogeneous oxide formation on the steel surface is beneficial for reaction between melted Zn and the steel surface.
