The development of a surgeon directed user interaction for CAS

Introduction: After the successful release of the first generation of its Ci TKR computer assisted surgery (CAS) software, DePuy began an in depth analysis and research effort to enhance the next generation of the software. A rigorous process of review was undertaken to understand the key elements that could be improved to advance the next generation towards a truly surgeon centered experience. Based on research and design vision from collaboration with an experienced interaction design consulting team at Cooper, a Goal-Directed?methodology was employed to generate the insights and information required. Key obstacles in the surgeons' interaction with the CAS system were identified and a new design concept was created to incorporate the study findings and enhance quality of use.
