Endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs) are a structurally diverse group of chemicals that may adversely affect the health of living organisms by interaction with their endocrine system. Among them, nonylphenol (NP), bisphenol A (BPA) and triclosan (TCS) present significant research interest due to their extensive use and frequent detection into the aquatic environment. It is widely known that organisms can accumulate EDCs, however few data are available concerning accumulation of the aforementioned compounds in aquatic organisms. The aim of this study was to investigate accumulation of 4-n-NP, TCS and BPA in the marine mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis.
