To clarify the mechanism of the hypotensive and the renal-protective effects of the exercise training (EX), the effect of the chronic exercise on blood pressure and the expression of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) in the kidney was determined. Male Spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) were randomly separated to a control or an EX group. After 8 weeks, the renal expression of NOS was determined. SBP was significantly lower in the EX groups compared with the control group. The EX increased the expression of endothlial NOS (eNOS) and neuronal NOS (nNOS) proteins in the kidney, whereas it did not affect the expression of inducible NOS (iNOS) proteins. The increased eNOS and nNOS in the kidney may contribu- te to the hypotensive and the renal-protective effects of the EX.
