In ocean-trench earthquakes, it is important to consider long durations, which may exceed one minute. The present design code for harbor structures considers only short earthquakes of about 10~20 s. Therefore, it is necessary to consider longer duration earthquakes. In this research, a shaking table test and simulations were conducted to study the influence of earthquake duration on sand liquefaction using different densities of sand. The results were: 1) after liquefaction occurs, pore pressure takes a long time to dissipate in loose sand, but dissipates rapidly in dense sand; 2) using the GeoASIA code, the results of numerical simulation corresponded well with experimental results for properties such as pore pressure and amount of settlement to some extent.
