Electronic marketplaces are the electronic realization of traditional marketplaces. They have become popular platforms for B2C and B2B transactions in one form or another, such as auctions, product exchanges, online shopping markets, e-catalogs, etc. Automated negotiation is a powerful means for allocating resources among these transactions. A crucial important problem in designing agent-mediated negotiation system is the design of the decision mechanism or negotiation strategy based on the theoretical results of game theory and economic theory. The aim of this paper is to review the state of the art of negotiation strategy research, and summarize the challenges we must overcome in the future.
