Feeding frequency alters protein and energy metabolism of sows fed 1 x and 2 x the energy requirement for maintenance

Energy and protein intake recommendations may need reassessment for modern very high producing sows. Protein and energy metabolism can be studied simultaneously by combining indirect calorimetry with amino acid oxidation techniques using stable isotopes. To develop this methodology for a long-term research program, energy and protein metabolism of sows was studied at two feeding levels using the planned feeding regiment for future experiments.
