In this paper we propose a new methodology for generating a frequency domain specification in order to replace the eye mask which is time domain specification. The methodology is based on statistical analysis with Taguchi method to reduce the number of experiments. The Sdd21 (of mixed-mode S-parameters) is used for the frequency domain specification. Sdd21 is multiplied with weighting factor, the spectrum of the clock, for a more effective comparison between the S-parameter and the eye-diagram. The methodology has been verified by using the frequency domain specification and eye-masks of HDMI 1.3 cables.
