Studying the Effects of Primer Surfacer Properties on the Automotive Coating Appearance by DOE

In general evaluations of automotive coatings, the appearance is considered more important than physical and chemical properties. thus corresponding improvement are necessary. Study of appearance by means of QMS-BP technique, which measures some of the most important coating appearance factors such as specular gloss, DOI and orange peel, can be useful. In this article the influences of variation in primer properties such as thickness, roughness and gloss on coating system appearance of final coating for two different primer type have been investigated. Results show that NAP value increases as gloss increases, while increase of thickness and roughness causes decrease on the NAP value.
