This paper presents a concept of satellite-based position information used in safety critical train applications. First the present use of satellite navigation in the rail sector is discussed. Then a method for satellite signal augmentation and an integrity check are described in a conceptual way. Finally the concept is applied to the use cases "ETCS" and "Automated train formation facilities" and an outlook is given.
