Frontier El Dorado Refining Company in El Dorado, Kansas, has succeeded in improving the performance of their fixed-bed catalytic reformer. Improvements included: ? Doubling the cycle length between catalyst regenerations; ? Higher C5+ yield; ? Higher hydrogen yield; ? Higher RON; ? Shorter carbon burns. This paper details the series of changes that led Frontier to all of these improvements. These changes include: ? Implementation of Roddey Engineering Services proprietary catalyst regeneration techniques; ? Compressor modifications to achieve a higher hydrogen to hydrocarbon ratio; ? Inspecting reactor internals and repairing or replacing damaged scallops or centerpipes; ? Modifying reactor internals to achieve properly loaded reactors that prevent bypassing; ? Replacing the previous catalyst with new UOP R-86 catalyst; ? Upgrading of feed management systems to avoid processing high sulfur material.
