The development of spring production equipment of the last decade focused on the implementation of electronics to achieve high output rate with a maximum flexibility. This goal stayed the same. On the first look, the products to be produced on these machines has not changed very much. A closer look reveals, however, that the specifics are in the details of the drawings. Tolerances, in the past, kept within reason are cut in half. Whether these are the geometric tolerances describing the look of the spring or the physical tolerances such as the spring load does not matter. Every parameter has to be monitored and, if possible, checked and statistically controlled. In the following a few technical solutions will be presented of how a machine tool manufacturer can help in coping with these requirements. At first a closer look on the new generation of WAFIOS compression spring coilers will be revealed. Next, the latest technology on measuring devices will be described. Applications for camera systems on compression-, tension-, and torsion spring coilers will be pointed out.
