A new scorch protected peroxide (VC40-SP2) and a standard peroxide (VC40) 40% assay m/p-di(t-butylperoxy)diisopropylbenzene were compounded into three different grades of chlorinated polyethylene (CPE) using a cable jacket formulation. The effect of peroxide grade on the scorch time, viscosity and crosslinking was studied using several CPE grades of varying Mooney viscosity. The effect of peroxide grade on the CPE viscosity at several compounding temperatures was also compared to a similar formulation which did not contain any organic peroxide curative.
