The subject of environmentally friendly design and construction- often called green building - is a subject that currently affects all of us in the wood products industry or will soon do so. This program is intended to provide a snapshot of what greenbuilding is today and how it affects us. First, it's important to define "green." Anyone who has even a passing acquaintance with the subject probably has an idea of what the term means. But that's typically a subjective opinion, based on personal opinion and what we perceive to be historical performance of materials and methods. Methods of assessing the environmental impact of materials are complex because they are a mixture of objective and subjective analysis, and some values and considerations aredifficult to quantify. For that reason it's important, whenever practical, to base environmental impact analysis on scientific fact rather than subjective opinions.
