Society of Hill Resource Management School (SHRMS) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) formed in 1986 by group of like-minded professionals from different stream of life joined together to give lasting solution or replicable models for environmental management in Palamu Division of Jharkhand State in India. Normally environmental management was seen in isolation with livelihood generation and sustainability due to one or the other reasons. The degrading environment is a challenge. If one responds to challenge according to old conditioning, the response will not enable to understand new challenge. Therefore in order to meet new challenges one will have to strip one self completely, denude oneself entirely of the background and meet the challenge a new this process of delearning to learn the process of self help for rural self reliance with sustainable livelihood came in the mind of these young successful professionals. The result was establishment of SHRMS amid the extremely difficult field situation of Palamu district in Jharkhand state. The process, action observation and results are sufficient for setting trend for NGO's to work with proud in this field. This experiment has opened a new innovative field in which NGO's sector may get self satisfaction in addition to name, fame and reorganization.
