Discussion About the Corrective Control for Voltage Stability of Complex Power Systems Based on Primal-Dual Interior Point Method

As power systems become more complex and heavily loaded, voltage stability becomes an increasing serious problem. It is therefore necessary to develop an on-line Voltage Stability Monitoring System in today's Energy Management Systems (EMS). Voltage stability corrective control, one of the steps in the monitoring system, can be formulated as a static nonlinear optimization problem which can be solved by Primal-Dual Interior Point Method (PDIPM). Since real power systems are large scale systems, the mathematical model describes them is also of large scale. This paper describes some critical problems when applying the PDIPM to the corrective control for voltage stability, these problems can be divided into two kinds, some key points in the pure algorithm and some problems in realizing the algorithm in engineering practice. The approaches proposed have been successfully tested on the 168-bus real system in Fujian province, China.
