OPTION FOR PRIVATE DELIVERY OF VETERINARY SERVICES IN INDIA: A FARMERS' PERSPECTIVE AT MICRO LEVEL IN ANDLURA PRADESH

This study was conducted following exploratory research design in a district of Andhra Pradesh, by selecting six villages randomly from three mandals. The data were collected from a total of randomly selected 120 livestock farmers, 20 fanners from each selected village through a semi structured interview schedule. The study identified several constraints of fanners in utilization of veterinary services and also revealed that majority of the farmers (45%) had favourable opinion towards privatization of veterinary services. Further, the majority of the farmers identified artificial insemination (85.83%) and pregnancy diagnosis (63.33%) among breeding; laboratory diagnosis (74.17%) and radiography (63.33%) among diagnostic; deworming (58.33%) and vaccination (83.33%) among prophylactic; medical treatment (80%), major surgical treatment (93.33%) and gynaecological & obstetrical treatment (91.67%) among the curative; and distribution of fodder seedlings (76.67%) and round the clock services (78.33%) among the miscellaneous services as suitable for privatization and indicated their willingness to pay for these services.
