SNC Lavalin Energy Control Systems along with TECO of Taiwan was contracted to provide a new Feeder Dispatch Control System (FDCS) for Taiwan Power Company (TPC). TPC, the sole power utility in Taiwan, supplies power to more than 10 million people. Its peak load is approximately 30,000 KW. In developing this system, Taiwan Power wanted to ensure high availability and security, which in this case was implemented as a segregated communications system. The TPC service territory is divided into over 20 districts, with each district being responsible for the distribution network within its service area. The Taipei South District Office is responsible for the distribution of electricity in the industrialized and heavily loaded service area in the southern section of Taipei, the capital city of Taiwan. Its distribution network consists primarily of 22.8kV underground and 11.4kV overhead power distribution circuits.
