Seamount fishes - species composition on seamounts and adjacent slope

Seamount features are prominent in the New Zealand marine environment and provide an important habitat for deepwater fish such as orange roughy, smooth oreo, black oreo, and black cardinalfish. Research trawl and acoustic surveys have been regularly carried out in several areas around New Zealand and, while primarily monitoring the change in relative abundance of the major deepwater commercial species over time, information on the composition of fish assemblages on seamounts and the adjacent slope area has also been reported.
