The NRG Systems #40 Maximum Anemometer is the most widely used anemometer in the North American wind industry. In 1998, Lockhart and Bailey evaluated the calibration of this anemometer type and developed what has come to be known as the consensus transfer function. As the most relied upon anemometer for wind resource assessments in North America, continued confidence in the application of the #40 Maximum type anemometer is crucial to the wind energy industry. Garrad Hassan has compiled a database over 1000 calibrated NRG #40 Maximum Anemometers constructed over several years from a variety of sources.
