Developing a Visualized Patient-centered, Flow-based and Objective-oriented Care Path of Cardiac Catheterization Examination

It has been known that visualization is a user-preferred and more meaningful interlace of information systems. To reduce the anxiety and uncertainty of patients, we transformed the sophisticated process of cardiac Catheterization into visualized information. The Microsoft Visio 2003 and Excel 2003 with the VBA automation tool were used to design a process flow of Cardiac Catheterization. The results show the technical feasibility and potentials helpful for patient to realize the nursing process of cardiac Catheterization. Information visualization is easier to be understood and more accessible to the general population [1]. Visualization is also more helpful to inform patients to make better decisions [2, 3] and awareness of the caring processes of themselves is beneficial for patient's own care quality and satisfaction. The objective of this study was then to develop an easy-to-understand visualized flow-and-objective-oriented prototype care path from patients' perspective on cardiac Catheterization (CATH) examination.
