ThMn{sub}12-type compounds are among the most promising candidates for permanent magnets applications. Their magnetic properties can be further improved by introducing N or C atoms into the interstitial sites [1]. ThMn{sub}12-type carbides prepared using melting method show the advantages of good stability at high temperature. Mao et al. have prepared NdFe{sub}10.5Mo{sub}1.5C{sub}0.4 and RFe{sub}10.5Mo{sub}1.5C{sub}0.6 (R is heavy rear earth) by melting method [2]. However, up to now, the carbon content x in the Nd(Fe,Mo){sub}12C{sub}x system, is less than 0.4. In this article, we report the preparation and magnetic properties of NdDy{sub}0.2Fe{sub}(12-y)Mo{sub}yC{sub}0.6 (y=1.5, 2) synthesized by melting method. Further nitrogenation brings even better intrinsic properties to the carbon-nitride combinations compared to the simple nitrides or carbides.
