For today's high-speed disk drive systems, the data-signal frequencies are in the GHz range. Therefore, channel front-end designers are starting to use microwave design modeling techniques and analysis for maintaining data signal fidelity and component integrity. The channel front-end system is comprised of two electrical interconnects, two ICs, and a read/write transducer[1]. The channel interconnect connects the channel IC to the read/write IC, and this interconnect section includes the drive's printed circuit board, connecter, and a flex cable. The suspension interconnect connects the read/write IC to the read/write transducer, and this interconnect section includes the flex cable and an integrated lead suspension (ILS) interconnect section.
