A helical-scan tape system using a conventional GMR head and thin metal-evaporated (ME) tape was developed [1][2]. It was previously reported that a GMR head with a corrosion-resistant spin-valve (SV) exhibited good corrosion resistance against the NaCl solution [3]. In this paper, the corrosion-resistant GMR head is exposed to corrosive gases, the recording characteristics is measured using a helical-scan tape system.
