The Antarctic NIR/MIR Camera AMICA

The near/medium infrared camera (AMICA) is expected to be operational in 2007 at the Dome - C site at the Antarctic pole as a result of the cooperation of several Italian institutions (OAMI, OATO, OAPD) led by the Teramo Observatory and the Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica (INAF). The camera, to be mounted at the Nasmyth focus of the 80 cm IRAIT telescope, will provide the first astronomical data with scientific content from this site both in the near IR (1-5 μm) and medium IR (5-27 μm) spectral regions via two independent channels equipped with InSb and SiAs detectors respectively. The goal of this instrument is a direct estimate of the observational quality of this new, highly promising astronomical observational site.
