This paper pertains to an experimental investigation on nucleate pool boiling of saturated isopropanol on a mild steel heating tube coated with copper of various thicknesses viz. 19, 26, 33, 41 and 60 (mu)m and heat flux ranging from 15,670.20 to 43,151.57 W/m~(2) at atmospheric and subatmospheric pressures. Data analysis shows that enhancement of boiling heat transfer coefficient due to copper coating is a function of heat flux, pressure and thickness of coating. Boiling characteristics of copper coated tubes are compared with that of uncoated one. Thermal performance of a coated tube is evaluated in terms of heat flux and pressure. It also prescribes a criterion for enhancement of heat transfer coefficient for the boiling of isopropanol on a copper coated tube.
