Improving Periodic Defect Detection in Hot-Rolled Long Products by Means of Combination Between Eddy Current and Vision

Periodic Defects Roller Marks (PDRM) are still a huge problem for the hot rolled long products affecting all grades, in between them the High Margin Engineering Steel grades the one's with specific T° rolling conditions increasing rolls cracks occurrences due to fatigue stress. Most of PDRM are caused by groove cracks (GC). An early detection of GC as well as their identification is of paramount importance to improve profitability of steel plants, and in many cases their survival. In this paper we will discuss the benefits of a new solution called EDDYeyes synchronizing in real time EC testing and vision. This is a complex solution that includes digital EC signals acquisition with on time treatment and high-speed Vision systems, with high quality LED lightning and complex math algorithms to give the fastest and more accurate defects information.
