Medium-Thick-Slab Casting Technology Bridging the Gap Between Conventional and Thin-Slab Casting

Medium-slab casting with a thickness range of typically 100-150 mm has substantially increased in recent years and has since acquired a considerable market share. VAI has supplied numerous casters of this type, which are installed in a direct hot-charging route in different plant configurations according to producer requirements. Medium-slab casting combines all of the benefits of conventional thick-slab casting and some of the benefits from thin-slab casting. The medium-slab caster incorporates the proven equipment design, operational aspects and automation features from conventional casting. The integration of VAI's highly successful technological packages into medium-slab casters is the basis for achieving highcapacity and highly flexible continuous casting.
